The Best A/B Testing Apps for Shopify in 2026

Shopify finally shipped native A/B testing in 2026 - so do you still need an app? The honest guide to Shopify A/B testing: Rollouts, Intelligems, Shoplift, Visually and more.

The Best A/B Testing Apps for Shopify in 2026

For years, A/B testing on Shopify meant bolting on a third-party app, because the platform had nothing native worth using. That changed in 2026 - and it reshapes the whole "best app" question. So before you install anything, understand what Shopify now does for free, and where the paid apps still earn their keep.

The big change: Shopify's native A/B testing ("Rollouts")

In its Winter '26 Edition, Shopify shipped native A/B testing called Rollouts1, found under Markets → Rollouts in admin. As of mid-2026 it covers themes, and checkout and customer-account configurations. It is available to merchants on Basic and up, with no app install and no extra monthly fee.

The clever part is how it works: Rollouts splits traffic server-side. There is no JavaScript injected into your storefront, which means no flicker, no page-speed hit, and no layout-shift or SEO risk - the things that make client-side testing apps slower and riskier. It also handles scheduled and gradual publishing with automatic rollback.

But Rollouts has real limits, and they are exactly why the paid apps still exist:

  • No price, shipping or offer testing. It swaps whole themes and configs, not prices.
  • No custom goals. It tracks standard conversion, AOV and revenue - you cannot define "add-to-cart" or "email signup" as the metric.
  • No significance or confidence reporting. This is the big one. Rollouts shows you the numbers but will not tell you whether the difference is statistically real, which makes it easy to call a fake winner.
  • Theme-level only. You cannot granularly test individual elements (a checkout button's text, a trust badge) the way dedicated apps can.

Verdict: Rollouts is a fantastic, free default for whole-theme and checkout swaps. Most serious stores run it for that, and add a paid app for pricing or for proper statistics. Just bring your own significance check, because Rollouts will not give you one.

Intelligems - price, offer and profit testing

If you want to test prices, shipping thresholds, discounts or bundles, Intelligems is the category leader and does what Rollouts flatly cannot. Its real differentiator is that it reports results in profit, not just conversion rate - which matters enormously, because a price test can lift conversions while quietly destroying margin. Pricing is tiered by order volume, with an accessible entry tier for content testing. If your biggest CRO questions are about money (what to charge, when to offer free shipping), this is the app.

Shoplift - theme, template and content testing

Shoplift is the design-and-layout counterpart to Intelligems' price focus. It tests themes, templates and individual sections, with segmentation, significance reporting and predictive analytics. It runs client-side (so unlike Rollouts there can be some flicker), but in exchange you get the granularity and the statistics Rollouts lacks. Pricing is tiered by monthly store visits. A strong pick for content and layout experiments that need real rigor.

Visually.io - full-funnel, no-code

Visually is an AI-assisted, no-code tool that tests across the whole funnel - homepage, product page, cart, checkout and post-purchase - and layers on personalization and upsells. It has a well-reviewed Shopify app, generous entry tiers (priced by orders), and a free option for dev stores. Good for merchants who want breadth and a friendly visual editor without touching code.

Instant - page builder plus testing

Instant is primarily a no-code page builder that happens to include A/B testing. You build PDPs, landing pages, sections and popups (it even imports from Figma), then test them with auto-winner detection. If you want building and testing in one tool and a library of CRO templates, it fits. Treat the testing as "good enough for page variants" rather than a rigorous experimentation engine.

Also worth knowing

  • Dexter is a focused product-price testing app - an Intelligems-lite for stores whose main question is the optimal price point.
  • General platforms run on Shopify too. Convert, VWO and Optimizely all work on Shopify via a snippet rather than a native app - relevant if you have a CRO team that already standardizes on one.
  • A caution: some cheap "A/B testing" apps switch variants on a 24-hour time cycle rather than per visitor. That is not real A/B testing - day-of-week effects contaminate the result. If an app does not split traffic per visitor, skip it.

How to choose for Shopify

  1. Decide what layer you are testing. Theme/layout → Rollouts (free) or Shoplift. Price/offer → Intelligems or Dexter. Full funnel → Visually. Most growing brands run Rollouts plus one paid app.
  2. Insist on revenue or profit, not just conversion rate. On a store, a CR win that lowers AOV or margin is a loss. Tools that report revenue-per-visitor and profit (Intelligems) protect you from that.
  3. Check the statistics. Does it show significance and confidence? Rollouts and several cheap apps do not - so verify wins with a free significance calculator before you ship.
  4. Respect your traffic. Most Shopify stores cannot detect small lifts quickly. Bigger-effect tests (price, offers) reach significance faster than subtle layout tweaks. Size the test first - here is how long an A/B test really needs to run.

Where CazyAB fits

We run experiments on Shopify stores every day, which is why we built CazyAB, our own A/B testing app - focused on revenue-aware reporting and honest significance for ecommerce, without the bloat. CazyAB launches on July 6, 2026, and you can get early access at ab.cazyweb.com. Whatever you use, our free A/B test calculator will tell you if a result is real before you trust it.
