Add-on suggestions inside the cart, not just the product page
A short row of complementary products shown inside the cart itself, addable without leaving the page, chosen to fit what is already in the cart rather than generic bestsellers.

What it is
Below the line items and above the order summary, the cart shows two or three add-on products related to what is already in the cart, each with a one-click add button that updates the cart total in place.
Why it works
The cart is the one page where the shopper has already committed to buying something, which makes it a different moment than the product page: the question is no longer whether to buy, it is whether to buy anything else while they are here. Surfacing genuinely complementary items, a phone case next to a phone, a belt next to trousers, at that exact moment catches a decision the shopper would otherwise never revisit, because most shoppers do not go back to browse once their cart already feels complete.
How to test it
- Hypothesis
- Showing cart-specific add-on suggestions will lift average order value, because shoppers who have already committed to buying are shown a relevant reason to add one more item before they check out.
- Primary metric
- Average order value (sessions that reach the cart)
- Guardrail metric
- Checkout completion rate, which could fall if the added module makes the cart page busier and gives an already-committed shopper a reason to hesitate
