Show a live result count next to each filter option before it's applied
Opening the filter panel shows a count in parentheses next to every option, so the shopper knows how many results a filter will leave before clicking it.

What it is
The filter panel lists a count in parentheses next to every option, for every facet, including a price slider with real minimum and maximum values, calculated against the current grid rather than the full catalog, and the counts update as other filters are applied.
Why it works
A filter list with no counts asks the shopper to apply a guess and see what happens, and if the result is zero or nearly zero, they've wasted a click and have to backtrack. Seeing a low count before clicking tells the shopper immediately whether that filter is worth applying at all, which matters most for narrow attributes that could easily intersect with the rest of their selections to leave nothing.
How to test it
- Hypothesis
- Showing a live result count next to each filter option will lift filter-to-add-to-cart conversion, because shoppers can avoid applying combinations that would leave them with zero or near-zero results.
- Primary metric
- Add-to-cart rate (sessions that open the filter panel)
- Guardrail metric
- Filter panel abandonment rate, which could rise if low counts on the shopper's preferred options discourage them from filtering at all
