Save an item for later instead of forcing add-or-remove
A "save for later" action sits next to the Cart heading, separate from each line's own remove link, so a shopper unsure about one item does not have to make a final call on it to keep shopping.

What it is
The cart carries a "save for later" action next to the Cart heading, distinct from each line's own remove link, which moves an item into a separate, persistent list rather than deleting it outright, so it stays available to add back with one click instead of forcing an immediate keep-or-delete call.
Why it works
A cart that only offers keep or delete forces a shopper who is unsure about one item into a decision they are not ready to make, and the easiest way out of that discomfort is often to just leave the whole cart rather than resolve it. Saving the item for later removes the pressure to decide immediately: the shopper can check out with what they are sure about now and revisit the rest without having lost it. It turns a stuck decision into a deferred one, and a deferred decision does not block checkout.
How to test it
- Hypothesis
- Adding a cart-level save-for-later action will lift checkout completion rate, because shoppers unsure about one item can defer that decision instead of abandoning the whole cart over it.
- Primary metric
- Checkout completion rate (sessions with 2 or more items in the cart)
- Guardrail metric
- Average order value, which could fall if items that would have been bought anyway get deferred and never come back
